Urgent
Action and
Appeal,
December
2010
Police Crackdown
on Refugees in
Nairobi, Kenya,
Fear of
Deportations,
Tortures and
intimidation.
I am writing
this appeal
letter in behalf
of Oromo refugee
community in
Kenya. Oromo
refugee
community in
Kenya (ORCWA) is
a society
association
registered under
society act of
Kenya 108.
Promoting
refugees well
fare in Kenya.
ORWCA is
currently,
advocating on
social
intervention for
urban refugees
with the Kenyan
government,
refugee
concerned NGO’S
and in
collaboration of
others African
refugee’s
residing in
Kenya.
We Oromo
refugee are here
due to wide
spread and well
founded of human
right violation
such as
continuous mass
harassment,
political
persecution,
arbitrary
arrest,
detention,
untold torture,
mysteriously
disappearance
and killing by
current regime
of Ethiopian
government.
Since we
have been start
living as a
refugee here in
Kenya early
1990’s,
experienced
mysterious
assassination,
abduction and
deportation by
secretly
recruited
pro-Ethiopian
government
refugees and
agents.
Early2007, two
of prominent
professional
Oromo refugee
members Tesfahun
Chamada and
Mesfin Abebe
forcefully
deported to home
and facing death
sentence due to
their active
participation to
empower our
refugee
community.
To over came
our community
insecurity
incidents we
have been
closely working
with area police
and other
concerned
offices. but
Currently there
is cracked down
of illegal
immigrant in
Kenya, using
that as an
opportunity,
pro- Ethiopian
government
groups were
fabricating
unsubstantial
allegation over
our 12 community
leaders summoned
to police and
some arrested
and freed by
court, some are
still in jail
and some remain
looking after,
their life is in
danger.
The concern we
got so far is
not fruitful.
Depend on the
Experience we
have been in,
if similar
incidents
continued, we
fear, our
innocent
refugees will
face possible
deportation
which violated
our
international
convectional
refugee right.
Oromo
refugee
community in
Kenya condemned
the move of
current
situation. There
fore, request
all concerned
stake holders to
look the
situation to
ensure our
refugees are
protected. In
view above, the
Oromo
community’s is
hopeful that all
relevant
organizations
will consider
the importance
of this issue
and will
urgently
intervene to
curb or halt the
move of this pro
–Ethiopian group
and their agents
against the
community
leaders and our
members.
At last not at
least, In be
half of my
community I look
forwarded to
work with
concerned body
to secure the
lives of our
refugees, to
enhance peace
and harmony life
with the host
community.
