DAG should not be allowed to escape the accountability before the International Community.

The Development Assistance Group (DAG) counter-report to the recent Human Right Watch (HRW) investigation entitled “Development without Freedom – How Aid Underwrites Repression in Ethiopia” shows how deeply terrorized themselves are and the state of pressure in which they are working rather than clarifying the issue on the ground. Without being ashamed of their silence to the ever-growing human right violation and abuse tragedy, its criticism which was released days after the investigative report show how determined they are to cover up not only the crime of the government but also their part in tragedy by the taxpayers money. We have witnessed how fast and bitter they come out to engage the report which uncovered the already public issue of Human right abuse in Ethiopia and share of some Aid groups like DAG in fueling the misery of the Ethiopian nation. DAG have clearly shade itself the agony of shame and stand devoid of any credibility as far as the Ethiopian people is concerned.

Human Rights Watch, an international non-governmental organization that conducts research and advocacy, produces research reports on violations of international human rights norms as set out by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and is one of the world’s leading independent organizations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights. By focusing international attention where human rights are violated, they give voice to the oppressed and are helping to hold oppressors accountable for their crimes. These reports are used as the basis for drawing international attention to abuses and pressuring governments and international organizations to reform. For 30 years, Human Rights Watch has worked tenaciously to lay the legal and moral groundwork for deep-rooted change and has fought to bring greater justice and security to people around the world.

The 105 page HRW report which was based on the interviewed for more than 200 people in 53 villages across three regions of the country during a six-month investigation in 2009, is firsthand information on the ground. For the people of Ethiopia the report is spoon water from the ocean; while it is unfounded for the big bosses of DAG who are busy enjoying life in Luxury hotels and the repressive Government palace.

That is why we believe DAG should stand accountable for its intentional cover up and calculated Aid to the dictatorial regime in Ethiopia.
